As mentioned earlier, if you keep your classroom organized, you will feel better about your job, and your students will enjoy your class. A disorganized classroom speaks volumes about you as a teacher. Parents and students will judge your character as an educator. Whether you know it or not, students and parents form opinions about you and share those opinions with everyone they know.
It might be Christmas break, and the family is around the dinner table talking about their teachers. Your name comes up, and someone says, “Oh yeah, he’s so disorganized.” Perception is now locked in the minds of the audience that heard that comment, and it soon spreads. Before long, you become known by these conversations.
Having consideration for where kids come from is also a necessary aspect of being an educator. Kids may live in a mess at home, so coming to a clean and well thought-out classroom will be a welcome change to their lives. Your class may be one of the only places they go that shows them how to be organized. This may be one little thing you do that inspires the same from your kids. What would the same Christmas dinner conversation sound like in this situation?
