In my early career, I would have rehearsals where I completely lost control of my emotions because students were not performing simple tasks.  In these instances, it now becomes obvious that simply changing the approach would have made all the difference.  By practicing the scale of the piece first, I may have avoided missed notes.  By simply using a metronome, I could have allowed the students to keep a steady beat.  The approach you choose can be the defining factor for success in your classroom.
